Never Stop Believing! - Darlene Gainey
This October I will celebrate 21 years with Roper Staffing. I’m in a season where I’m stepping back—but not stepping out! When I look back, I’m still amazed at how it all happened. I had prayed and asked God to give me “the job of my heart’s desire.” Just a couple of weeks later, a friend who worked at Roper came by my office (I was in inside sales at the time). I told him, “Keep me in mind if you hear of anything that might be a good fit.” Not long after, he came back and said: “Roper Staffing is looking for a Branch Manager.” I laughed and told him, “I don’t know anyone in staffing, but I’ll let you know if I think of someone.” He looked me right in the eye and said, “I’m thinking of YOU. You know people and you know sales.” Well, a few weeks later, without telling anyone I was even interviewing, I was offered the job—with zero experience, but with a heart full of excitement and thankfulness.
After two weeks of training, they told me, “Go make sales calls when you feel ready.” Two weeks later, I went out…and came back with a brand-new account: Ashley Furniture. They’ve been with me for the entire 21 years. 💜
It hasn’t always been easy. We walked through the 2008 recession and lost over 80 jobs at our top account. I cried with every manager and every employee that day when we had to lay them off. We went through COVID, working every single day even when we were scared to death—but God saw us through and brought us back stronger. And then in 2023, our largest account closed, and once again we were hit with another huge loss.
But you know what? Today, we’re growing again. We’re rebuilding. We’re more determined than ever. Through it all, God has been so, so good to me. I’m thankful for the career He blessed me with, the amazing people I’ve met, and the clients who turned into lifelong friends. I wouldn’t change a thing.
If I could encourage you with anything, it would be this: ✨ Never stop believing that good things are ahead. ✨ Ask God to give YOU the job of your heart’s desire—because He truly can and He truly will.
